"Working with a cast of actors with autism was one of the most meaningful projects of my life…" – Matt Boda, Director and Producer

National Autism Awareness and Outreach Campaign

Help redefine how the world sees autism—by bringing education, empathy, and representation into communities nationwide.

  • Autism diagnoses are rising—now affecting 1 in 36 children in the U.S. (CDC, 2023)

  • Rural and underserved communities often lack any autism diagnostic or support services—causing delays of 2–5 years in getting support (CDC, 2022)

  • 39 states have reported budget shortfalls affecting disability services, including autism-related programs (Center on Budget and Policy Priorities, 2023)

WHY THIS MATTERS

  • Over 5.4 million adults in the U.S. are on the autism spectrum, yet services for autistic individuals often drop dramatically after age 21

  • Autistic individuals face an 85% unemployment rate, even though many have skills highly sought after in industries like technology, engineering, and the arts.

WHY WE MADE THIS FILM

In an alternate dystopian reality, a forsaken brotherhood of young men embarks on a treacherous journey to get life-saving medication for their caregiver.

Synopsis

Plight takes place in a near-future torn apart by civil war. The disabled and neurodivergent have been cast aside, forced to survive on society’s fringes. Among them are Peter, James, Bart, and Russell—four autistic young men cared for by their guardian, Connie, in a remote farmhouse. When Connie falls ill, they must brave the treacherous journey to New Haven for medicine.

Along the way, tensions rise over survival, missing supplies, and ruthless scavengers, but their shared dreams keep them going. In New Haven, they find little more than ruins—until Connie’s sister, Ronnie, offers them a new path forward.

We’re proud to collaborate with leading organizations to amplify the impact of Plight. Throughout the campaign, we’ll highlight resources from groups like the Autism Society, Autism Research Institute, Inclusion Matters by Shane’s Inspiration, and other local organizations that share our mission of inclusion and authentic representation.
